Paver, 44, is originally from Illinois. He has been working in education for 20 years, and has spent 14 years in higher education. Paver has worked with the administration and faculty for eight years at Triton College in River Grove, Ill.
“I’ve mostly worked with helping faculty integrate technology into their curriculum. I’ve improved things such as online classes, hybrid classes, and faculty to help students, and find new ways to improve the learning environment,” says Paver.
Paver went to Western Illinois University, earning a bachelor of arts in mass communications, radio/television broadcasting. He received his master of arts in religion and history from Trinity International University and his Ph.D from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas. He has been working on a doctoral program at Northern Illinois University, studying instructional technology.
He has been employed at Triton College for most of his career, as dean of Arts and Sciences. For the past three years, he has been working as the director of Triton’s Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and a program to help create better student environments called “Achieving the Dream.” Paver hopes to further degree partnership programs and learn the process of how the state of Oregon handles curriculum.
“When I get to LBCC, I want to lend a hand with building a relationship with ‘Achieving the Dream.’ I know a great deal about them and how to achieve successful learning environments for students,” says Paver.
Paver applied for the dean of Instruction job on www.higheredjobs.com. He was asked for an interview essay, and after a little back and forth, Paver was flown out for a short interview. This led to another flight for an all-day interview, and ultimately to being hired for the job.
“I’ve seen the progress that LBCC has made in the past couple years and it excites me to be a part of exploring options to advance the college and keeping the momentum going,” says Paver.
Paver enjoys historical and science fiction writing. His hobbies also consist of nature photography, cooking and eating. He has lived in Montana, Wisconsin and Nevada. He and his wife, Jennifer, enjoy lots of hiking. Paver will be moving to Corvallis on June 22.
